Today, I will tell you guys about studying abroad!
今日は留学のことについて話します。
初めに/First of all
if you are going to study abroad, which is better, attending a language school or University?
もし皆さんが留学するなら語学学校？大学進学？どちらがいいでしょうか？
Since I have studied abroad in the US before, I will tell you which is better, the pros and cons from my perspective.
アメリカに留学していたことがあるので、今回は、どちらが良いのか私の経験と2つのメリット・デメリットをお伝えします！
Oh btw, I went to a university while I was in the US, but I've got a lot of friends who went to language schools. I have asked them the pros and cons as well.
ちなみに、私は、1年間でアメリカの大学に行きました 。しかし、私の周りで、語学学校に行っていた友人がたくさんいるので、そちらの方を意見も参照してお伝えします。
[語学学校/Language school]
■メリット/Pros
・You can meet people who are also in the international community
多国籍の人たちと知り合うことができる
・You can only focus on learning English or a language that you want to learn.
大学とは、違い英語や自分が学ぶたい言語を集中的に学べる
・It really depends on the school, but overall, you should have more free time than compared to a university student. For example, If you are allowed to work in the country you are going to, you can do a part-time job or an internship using the free time.
語学学校によりますが、全体的にみたら、語学学校の方が、大学に比べて自由な時間はある。なので、もし、働ける環境であれば、空いた時間に、バイトやインターンシップをすることで、英語を使う機会が増える。
・Language schools tend to group students by their language level. For example beginner class, intermediate class, advanced class. Therefore, you will be grouped with students who have a similar level.
多くの語学学校では、学生のレベル別にクラスを分ける傾向があります。そのクラスの中で、同じレベルの学生と勉強することでき、自分にあったレベルで勉強することができる。
■デメリット/Cons
・You do not get to hear many native speakers speak English and you won't get to meet many native speakers often in a language school. The only native speaker is the teacher.
語学学校では、ネイティブの方は、先生だけなので、あまりネイティブの英語を聞く機会がないことと、ネイティブの人と会う機会があまりない。
・Most of the curriculum is based on English so you won't be learning much rather than English.
ほとんどのカリキュラムは、英語をベースにしているので、英語以外の他のことをあまり学べない。
・There is a possibility that many students at a language school, could be from the same background as you. Therefore, you could hear more of your native language than English while attending the school. However, this is not all schools and does also depend on the time of year. For example, if you go abroad during the time of summer vacation in your country, there could also be people from your country studying at the language school you attend.
語学学校には、多くの日本人がいる可能性もある。そのため、英語より日本語を聞く機会がある可能性がある。しかし、これは、その語学学校と時期による。例えば、学生は、夏休みを使って、留学をする傾向がある。なので、日本人が同じ語学学校にいる率が高いと言える。
・You won't improve your English if you don't self-study because you will only use English during the class time unless you go outside to try to make friends with native speakers or with some people who come from other countries
人によるが、自由時間が多い分、自分で機会を作り外国人の方と友達にならない限り、語学学校以外では、あまり英語を使わないと多くの人が言っている。
Conclusion
I told you guys the pros and cons of languages school in this blog. Basically, those pros and cons are my opinions and friends who have been to language schools. Actually, I have asked 25 people including international students. Therefore, It could be different from what you think about it.
今回は、語学学校の良い点とデメリットを書かせていただきました。基本的に、これは、私の意見と実際に語学学校に行ったことがある日本人、外国人25人にアンケートをとってまとめたものです。人によっては、全く違う考えかもしれません。
